Volunteer Description:
The following medical hospitals and clinics in the Pokhara district of Nepal are interested in having volunteers:

1) Kantipur Dental Hospital (with certain terms and conditions)
Kantipur Dental Hospital requires medical professionals with a registered license. Dental Procedures performed:

  • Simple Amalgam
  • GIC
  • Composite
  • Zincphosphate
  • Zinx Oxide Eugenol
  • Crown and Bridge
  • Metal Celamic
  • Extraction
  • Scaling and oral hygiene instruction
  • Root canal filling
  • Pulpectomy

The hospital is currently functioning under it’s own funding resources. They have adequate supplies of instruments and materials in the hospital, but welcome any donations made.

The hospital provides an oral health awareness programme and dental camp in schools/communities. In addition to this they provide services for people via a rural hospital called Chapakot VDC at Syangia.

2) Abhiyan Community Hospital

Abhiyan Community Hospital requires medical professionals with a registered license.

3) Siddhartha Club Health Clinic (no dental facility)

Siddhartha Health Clinic can accept volunteers with just clinical experience. Health Services provided at the Siddhartha Club Health Clinic are :

  • General Medical check up
  • Cardiology
  • GI
  • Orthopaedic
  • Pharmacy and Lab
  • X-ray and ECG
  • Family Planning and contraception
  • Immunisation and Counseilling
  • Health Education
  • HIV/AIDS and STI awareness

Their current funding is via a service fee, fundraising and INGOs for the HIV/AIDS programme.

4) Tibetan Refugee Camp

Tibetan Refugee Camp can accept volunteers with just clinical experience.

5) Lekhnath Community Hospital (no dental facility)

Lekhanth Community Hosptial can accept volunteers with just clinical experience.

Requirements:
As per the Immigration law of Nepal Government, foreign volunteers can work in Nepal in a non-tourist visa ( There is not any special volunteer visa system ). The non tourist visa can be obtained for a period of one year at one time. The duration of any volunteer should be for a period of minimum six months. It is long procedure which may take more than 3 months in Kathmandu.

The Nepal government does not require the doctors to have malpractice insurance before volunteering. The volunteer visa will not be provided for a short period (less than 6 months). But a person can work as a volunteer in a tourist visa after having an agreement (can be verbal) with the concerning placement or NGO and with a permission of local administration. For the Kantipur Dental Hospital, a dentist can register in Nepal Medical council since there is no dental council in Nepal. They have to send the all testimonials copy along with Photo(passport size)and good standing letter to the Kantipur Dental Hospital and subsequently the Hospital will make a recomendation to the Medical Council for your registration as a volunteer .The registration charge will be 5500 NRS approxmately 78 us $.

Fees:
Volunteers are responsible for their flights,  accomodation and personal expenses. Transportation, housing, room and board have variable fees.
Kantipur Dental Hospital Housing: Volunteers can stay in hostel or appartment for food and lodge at a rate of 350$ per month. There is a beautiful flat for accommodation and the fee also covers breakfast,lunch and dinner. The charge or the supervision and camp etc depend upon the intended period which can be negotiated.

3. Upon receipt of your materials, we will process your application, obtain necessary work permits and deploy you to your volunteering site. Filling out the volunteering form is not a guarantee of placement, but we do try to accommodate as many volunteers as possible during the times you request. Please remember you will have to pay your own visa, temporary licensure or other governmental fees necessary. In the mean time, please gain the latest recommended immunizations
