Mission Statement: (See Web Site For Updated Information)
Medex International (MEI) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, nonsectarian medical aid organization. We currently have projects in Ecuador and India. Health care at our project sites is generally deficient due to lack of health resources and/or lack of means. MEI works with a variety of government, religious or lay leadership in the areas we serve. Each team may include physicians, dentists, veterinarians, nurses, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals, as well as non-medical support volunteers. These teams provide medical care, medications, medical equipment and supplies, medical training and health education. All members of the medical team volunteer their time and pay their own travel expenses. Our trips are 1-2 weeks. MEI always incorporates a bit of tourism into the trip. We believe that part of the experience of helping others overseas is getting to know their countries and cultures. We recognize that many medical professionals have limited time to travel and to volunteer and that they want to make the most of their vacation time. However, the majority of time will be spent doing medical work. Living conditions will vary. We may stay in an ecolodge, in a church, in a monastery or in a very basic hotel. Some medical sites will require camping in a tent. It will depend on the housing available at the medical site. In the cities, or during any tourism portion, we will stay in first class hotels. MEI provides all medications and medical supplies and training materials. There are no language requirements, as we have interpretors at all of our medical sites.
