International Medical Corps is a global humanitarian nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief programs. Established in 1984 by volunteer United States doctors and nurses, IMC is a private, voluntary, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization. Its mission is to improve the quality of life through health interventions and related activities that build local capacity in areas worldwide where few organizations dare to serve. By offering training and health care to local populations and medical assistance to people at highest risk, and with the flexibility to respond rapidly to emergency situations, IMC rehabilitates devastated health care systems. IMC's Mission International Medical Corps is a global humanitarian nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief programs. Established in 1984 by volunteer United States doctors and nurses, IMC is a private, voluntary, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization. Its mission is to improve the quality of life through health interventions and related activities that build local capacity in areas worldwide where few organizations dare to serve. By offering training and health care to local populations and medical assistance to people at highest risk, and with the flexibility to respond rapidly to emergency situations, IMC rehabilitates devastated health care systems and helps bring them back to self-reliance. Training: IMC's Niche IMC's doctors, nurses, midwives and administrators come from all over the world with a common goal: to share their knowledge with colleagues in regions where health care systems have been crippled by crisis and chaos. Our staff of experts help develop programs to improve health care for the most vulnerable ? especially women, children and the elderly. We give local medical professionals the skills and confidence they need to rebuild their shattered societies and create self-sufficient health care systems. Those who train with IMC go on to teach others in their communities, thus expanding IMC's legacy of care. IMC also has short-term volunteer opportunities. Those who donate their time to IMC typically spend four weeks or longer at a program site.
