Opportunity Description:
Unfortunately, the public health care system in Honduras is one of the worst in Latin America. In La Ceiba and the surrounding towns there are very few good hospitals and even most middle class families are unable to afford them. Therefore, able healthcare volunteers are needed to assist in local hospitals which are often poorly-equipped. Nursing and medical students and professionals will support local doctors and nurses in their work. Work task vary in different capacities from observing to providing assistance in surgery, based on your skills and experience. Also depending on your skill level, you may help care for patients, check blood pressure, distribute food, and work in the pharmacy or with a gynecologist.

We have placements in a rural clinic, about 40 minutes outside of Cusco. These clinics provide necessary care for thousands of Peru�s poorest; their indigenous people. Since most people, especially the children lack medical attention, these clinics provide basic heath check ups, dental and immunizations free of charge, so the need for volunteers is great. Volunteers assist the local staff in whatever capacity they may need, such as taking medical history, checking vitals, assisting with medicine and supplies. Volunteers must be in the medical fields and provide copies of their credentials. Since this is in a rural area, and intermediate knowledge of Spanish is required. This is a great opportunity to gain first hand medical experience in a foreign country while donating your skills.
