Current Volunteer Opportunities (Unpaid Positions)
Direct Patient Care Volunteers needed for 6 to 12 months
Opportunity Description: Volunteers work with an assigned family as requested. Depending on the needs of the family, this can range from several visits for 2-4 hours per week. Assignments also vary. This can range from assisting with household chores, social companionship for the patient to allow the caregiver to have a break, to sharing your personal talents with families (massage, story telling, small handy work assistance). Specific training will be provided for this volunteer type prior to assignment. Tuberculosis skin testing will be provided yearly as well.

11th Hour Vigil Volunteers: needed for 6 to 12 months
Opportunity Description: Volunteers who will just “be there” during the final hours of life. This special volunteer can sit & simply hold the hand of the patient. A person with very flexible schedules or who doesn’t mind being awake at night would be ideal for this. Hours will vary depending on the case and # of volunteers available at the time. Short notices of need may occur as well.

Administrative office volunteers: needed for 6 to 12 months
Opportunity Description: Volunteers assist with answering phones, filing, inventory counts, database updates. They also can run errands for office supplies & dropping off supplies needed for patients as requested. These volunteers also assist with special projects (birthdays, holidays) and event planning. They can also act as a set of extra hands for health fairs and inservices provided to doctor’s offices and health care facilities periodically.

Bereavement Support /Bible Study Volunteers: needed for 6 to 12 months
Opportunity Description: Volunteers assist our chaplain with preparation in our monthly bereavement support meetings held at our DeSoto office. Volunteers may also assist with the Bible studies we hold at various nursing homes during the week. Activities included flyer making to distribute in the healthcare facility & for mailings to families, telephone follow up, meeting set up & clean up and other requirements as needed to ensure a successful group meeting as directed by the Chaplain. Grief support training provided for this volunteer.

Job Description: RNs needed to care for patients & families in their residences/nursing facility located throughout the DFW metroplex. Essential functions include: 1. Initial & ongoing comprehensive assessments of the impact of terminal disease on patient's physical,functional,psychosocial and environmental needs & ADLs. 2. Implement individualized Plan of Care & recommend revisions as necessary 3. Consult & educate patient/family regarding disease process, self care techniques and end of life care. 4. Coordinate all patient/family services and prioritization of needs with members of IDT. 5. Use case management and refer serviceds as needed. 6. Apply specific criteria for admission and recertification to hospice to establish appropriate levels of care and eligiblity. 7.
